WANACHI POST

Tensions flared in Jinja’s main market area as city authorities attempted to enforce a long-delayed relocation of street vendors to a new designated area.

The vendors argue that the new location, two blocks away, has less customer traffic and will ruin their businesses. “They are taking food from our children’s mouths. We will not move,” said one vendor who identified herself as Mama Shamilah.

The Jinja City Commercial Officer, Harriet Nakaye, urged for calm, stating, “The relocation is part of a broader plan to decongest the city center and improve sanitation for everyone.”
