Major Power Grid Failure Plunges Kampala into Darkness
A sudden and widespread failure of the national power grid has left large sections of Kampala and surrounding central regions without electricity since 7:30 PM this evening.
Officials from the Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) have confirmed the collapse but are yet to release a definitive cause. “Our technical teams are actively working to identify the fault and restore supply as a matter of utmost priority,” a brief statement read.
Traffic lights are out across the city, causing significant gridlock, and businesses have been forced to close prematurely. The public is advised to remain calm and stay indoors if possible.
